    Spanish Pyrenees: Cultures of Aragon

Departing Barcelona we head into Aragon, a Spanish state rich in Celtic, Roman, Moorish and Spanish geopolitical history. Interestingly, a little known romance language called Aragones is still spoken by a few hundred people today. For the hikers and climbers, our farthest routes take us up to Ordessa National Park, an UNESCO Heritage and Biosphere Reserve site. Extensive forests, waterfalls, wildlife and incredible Hiking that takes us to the foot of Monte Perdido (Lost Mountain), the third tallest mountain in the Pyrenean range. The landscape breathes of diversity. From permanent mountain glaciers to green valleys with rich pasture lands and orchards, and through to the arid steppe plains of the central lowlands. Hikers are rewarded with an excellent trail system that ranges from light walks to long challenging circuits or even an ascent of Lost Mountain for the experienced climber. Kayaking and white water rafting are some of our favourite outdoor activities to get into. Not up for hiking or Kayaking? This area does not only call to the serious hiker; there are many other options in the area that are less physical with incredible experiences waiting to be lived out. Our local knowledge of the area will lead you to incredible spots such as stone villages carved right out of the bases of rocks that abruptly rise to the heights of the surrounding foothills.
